Microsoft to end support for XP

As and from April 8, 2014, technical assistance for Windows XP will no longer be available, including automatic updates that help protect your PC. Microsoft will also stop providing Microsoft Security Essentials for download on Windows XP on this date. (If you already have Microsoft Security Essentials installed, you will continue to receive antimalware signature updates for a limited time, but this does not mean that your PC will be secure because Microsoft will no longer be providing security updates to help protect your PC.)

If you continue to use Windows XP after support ends, your computer will still work but it might become more vulnerable to security risks and viruses. Also, as more software and hardware manufacturers continue to optimize for more recent versions of Windows, you can expect to encounter greater numbers of apps and devices that do not work with Windows XP.

What does it mean if my version of Windows is no longer supported?

An unsupported version of Windows will no longer receive software updates from Windows Update. These include security updates that can help protect your PC from harmful viruses, spyware, and other malicious software, which can steal your personal information. Windows Update also installs the latest software updates to improve the reliability of Windows—new drivers for your hardware and more.

If I have a support contract with FBS – how am I affected?

50+ Computer Users

Likely, you've got internal IT resources you can lean on, but technology needs may have exceeded what you've got or have budgeted for. It's no secret times are tight and everyone is commanded to do more with less.

We can help you achieve your goals and provide the right amount of support you need, keeping you focused on what you need to do to drive your company forward ... leaving the day-to-day tasks to us.

FBS has been providing reliable, dependable computer and network support IT directors and staff can count on. Tell us a bit about yourself and let's see if together we can achieve your goals.

10-50 Computer Users

patMid-size companies and organisations are truly stuck between a rock and hard place when it comes to their computer support needs. Does it make sense to hire a full-time IT person? Is it a cost-effective move? Hiring a part-time IT might get you a limited skill set ... and what do you do in their absence?

Consider a case in which you decide to hire a full-time IT person at an average of €45,000 - add in benefits, time off and PRSI. Now you're up to roughly €57-60,000. In addition, you'll need to add in a one-time cost of IT management software and required hardware plus training.

While your systems will now be managed, your IT person has no time left to work on core business activities to increase your competitiveness in the marketplace. IT people love to be challenged, yet retaining talent on this level might be difficult or expensive to keep training.

This is where FBS can come in to help. Tell us what your challenges are and we'll see if we can help you overcome them.

5-10 Computer Users

Small business owners tend to wear many hats - and chances are if you've reached our website, you're currently wearing the computer network support services hat.

When you started your business, likely you bought a few pc's and were able to get a small network together. But with increasing responsibilities, growth, and changing business environments, your time is becoming limited and your IT projects more complex.

Now, you're probably at a point where you want to contract with a local computer support provider who can respond to your needs, learn about you and help you achieve your goals.

FBS has spent nearly 30 years working with small businesses just like yours. And every story is unique. Kindly share your story with us - and we'll share ours. Together we'll see if we're the right fit.
